We think the music video of this single has a double meaning that shows the real side of contemporary korean culture. Young dame misleads sugar daddy — girls get high through illicit drugs in neon club for wild, energetic, mind altering effects. It’s a wild ride set to music that already sounds inspired by the beats of the bootleg remixer community.
But with the areia remix, you do not need to go back to the late 90s, nor indulge in any mind-altering substances, to get the full feel of the Girl’s Day single. Areia creations‘ take on Oh! My God provides us with a remix that is trance in its most classic form — a four to the floor time signature, 32 beat phrases, 140 bpm, and a high-hat on the off beat, this remix pays homage to the genre’s origin. The stumbling piano melody, found in the intro and break of the DJ edit, feels like either the ebbing waves of an island in Greece or the hallucinogenic effects of an extended stay in the club.
Whichever affect this remix has on you, it’s ready for DJ play with two 32 beat phrases in the intro and outro. Thanks goes to Jun for thinking of us with this edit, so feel free to give him a monetary tip on his website. Interestingly, he gives us some similar songs of his in the youtube description if you’re looking to find an easy juxtaposition in your sets:
