[145 BPM, Key of Gm] G-Dragon – One of a Kind (HVNS TRAP REMIX)

HVNS One of a Kind Artwork

HVNS is just twenty-effing-two years old but he’s already producing high quality trap/dubstep/jpop music under CLUBSODA. If you haven’t watched or heard of CLUBSODA (not to be confused with the drink), it’s a dynamic-duo between HVNS and his pop star vocalist MOTSU. HVNS also produced a sort of web documentary that you should all catch on the CLUBSODA YouTube. As we watch the production value of the video and music, we’re amazed at how young these gifted producers come these days. It may be that as music production becomes increasingly digital, the barriers to entry diminish.

[130 BPM, Key of Cm] DIZ BOYZ – Kuulkuk (Areia OFFICIAL Remix) feat. Dalshabet’s Ahyoung

Official remixes are great. We’re incredibly excited for Areia Remix to have another official remix under their belt – even better that it features Korean Comedians and Dalshabet’s Ahyoung. As we’ve stated before – it’s official work like this that legitimizes the kpop remix community.

Coming from Jun:

For the ones that don’t know them, (originally Australian) Sam Hammington and Jo Won-Seok are famous comedians in Korea appearing in many shows spreading laughter. Keeping the tradition of comedians bringing uplifting/sarcastic songs, they bring “Kuulkuk” – which is the sound you make when you swallow your drinks down. This is an official remix produced in parallel with the original song. The girl in the video is Dalshabet’s Ah Young.

[125 BPM, Key of B major] Sunny Hill – Darling of all Hearts (Trance Blossom Remix)

Back in July, Areia Creations – now operating under the “Areia Remix” brand announced the addition of Trance Blossom to the areia crew. To quote the blog post directly:

In addition trance style k-pop remixer Trance Blossom is now part of areiacreations and he will be working with the rest of the team on bringing more dreamy and uplifting remixes to our brand.

Trance Blossom stays true to his name with this Sunny Hill remix that is both dreamy and uplifting. The trance remix is in a MAJOR key – something to be desired when all kpop remixes today are in minor keys. The mix is without an extended intro, but we’ll happily make an extended version of this if you gaise ask for it.

[130 BPM, Key of Am] CL – The Baddest Female’s Old Skool (DJ Huygens Mashup)

CL GrillThe french mashup artist Huygens knows how to play with sampling to create a fluid mix. This Televisor instrumental with CL’s Baddest female acca has us thinking of CL’s song in a very different way – as all mashups should. As blackjacks we’ll admit it: the original was never really gangster –  the CL single was too poppy to drop in a trap/hip hop set. This Huygens track lets us check the CL song off of the request list for the kids who ask for it – and lets us keep our electro-disco house set going.  Continue reading

Introducing: Smells

Smells

A bump for Smells. Because we thought the artist was incredibly difficult to locate over search engines, we wanted to give this guy some publicity for his remixes and original work.

Smells hails from Foundation Records — the label you may know for the eclectic group EE or the smooth house producer Demicat.

DJ/Electronic Music Producer, Smells has a great series of original tracks that gained some traction by the EatYourKimchi crew. We also heard that the guy performed the production and remix work of MFBTY’s Sweet dream. So maybe he’s the biggest deal you haven’t heard of yet. While we love the original work, we wanted to highlight Smells’ remix works of Sistar.

DJ/Producer Contest: GLOBAL ONLINE SEARCH FOR UP-AND-COMING TALENT

Put_Your_Spin_On_IT

This one came through the wire. Now through August 28, DJs & Producers have the chance to submit their production track for the chance to jet off to Thailand as part of a weeklong DJ ‘boot camp’ at W Retreat Koh Samui in September, and later spin at a culminating music event at the recently opened W Bangkok.

The gig sounds like a great opportunity for those on the up & up trying to get their name out. We recommend this to our remix community to get involved. The production contest sounds like it’s an event to also spin live – further blurring the line between what it means to be a DJ or Producer today.

We’ve pasted the full press release associated with the contest below. For more information and to enter, be sure to check out to www.mix.dj/djlab2013 .

[140 BPM, Key of Fm] PSY – Gentleman (Areia Remix)

Like we mentioned in our last post, Areia’s remix of Gentleman is absolutely twerkalicious. We tried finding an animated .gif to demonstrate how twerking would work for this trap remix, but we had trouble finding something PG. As Jun Areia’s video will show, however, it’s almost as if the song was written for twerk. The way this new remix plays, it has us completely reinterpreting the lyrics of the original song.  Continue reading

[140 BPM, KEY OF EM] G-Dragon – Crayon (Epitone Trap Remix)

G-Trap

Get your trap on.
Meori eokkae mureup bal. Swag check swag check.

Before leaving to complete his own EP, Epitone left us with this K-trap gem. The Crayon remix is great for sets already jamming to the 70/140 trap genre, but we’ve personally dropped this track at anime and kpop gigs where top 40s were the hit. What we found was that the kids will fan-chant and sway to this hit. It’s a track nicely juxtaposed with Jun Areia’s PSY Gentleman mix for those who like to keep things twerk. Continue reading
