The Subversive Side of PSY

PSY’s two new songs may very well be a shallow boast on hooking up with hot chicks in his 40s, but we discuss possible subversive themes behind the music.

Post production note: it is more likely that “New Face” was filmed at the Venetian in Macau – not Las Vegas. Peter was tired and confused.

[140 BPM, Key of Fm] PSY – Gentleman (Areia Remix)

Like we mentioned in our last post, Areia’s remix of Gentleman is absolutely twerkalicious. We tried finding an animated .gif to demonstrate how twerking would work for this trap remix, but we had trouble finding something PG. As Jun Areia’s video will show, however, it’s almost as if the song was written for twerk. The way this new remix plays, it has us completely reinterpreting the lyrics of the original song.  Continue reading

[128 BPM Key of Dm] Psy – Gangnam Style (KATFYR, Blue Satellite, Epitone Remix)

Holy shit.

Did you just listen to that remix? It’s a three-way collaboration and it certainly sounds like one.  The mix is a blend between two of our favorites, Blue Satellite and Epitone, and one new celebrity producer we’re just now placing on the kpop radar — KATFYR. If you’re familiar with each of these producers’ work you can hear the sounds the structure each contributes to the mix; and it’s a harmonious blend at that. More comments after the jump. Upcoming: Moar Oppan Gangam Style Content

Full disclosure: most of our recent traffic has for Gangnam Style DJ edits. It seems nearly every kpop outlet is riding on the coattails of Gangnam style wave, and we’re not afraid to admit doing the same.

We’re happy to announce that we’re finalizing a package of Gangnam Style edits and remixes for download in the next couple days to bring extended variety and life to this viral meme. While it may be that PSY’s single is approaching the end of its 15 minutes of fame, we thought we’d provide the resources needed to play the Gangnam Style song in different ways.

Stay tuned. The YouTube teaser featured above is Epitone and Blue Satellite’s joint remix of the song.

EXTEND-IT: [132 BPM, KEY OF BM] PSY – GANGNAM STYLE (PLo Hook First Intro)

Every couple of years a hilarious internet meme will come along with an amazing soundtrack that adds to its virality. Say what you will about the ridiculousness of PSY’s video, but you know what: PSY gives 0 fucks. His song creates explosions in his wake and his dance lassos-in the likes of Hyuna. We’ll all laugh at this track, but deep down, we secretly know this song is made of pure awesome. This is LMFAO’s Sexy and I know it kpop style.  Maybe the DJ will play the song at the club and we’ll dance pretending that we’re just drunk.

Its our job as DJs to let these kids to dance to what may be 2012’s best. Continue reading
