Introducing: Smells

A bump for Smells. Because we thought the artist was incredibly difficult to locate over search engines, we wanted to give this guy some publicity for his remixes and original work.

Smells hails from Foundation Records — the label you may know for the eclectic group EE or the smooth house producer Demicat.

DJ/Electronic Music Producer, Smells has a great series of original tracks that gained some traction by the EatYourKimchi crew. We also heard that the guy performed the production and remix work of MFBTY’s Sweet dream. So maybe he’s the biggest deal you haven’t heard of yet. While we love the original work, we wanted to highlight Smells’ remix works of Sistar.

[125 BPM KEY OF EM] Sistar – Alone (AREIA REMIX)

We needed a remix of this track. Up to this point the Kpop community was without a solid remix of the Sistar single. Areia delivers with his expected palette of beautifully mastered sounds and instruments. We love the sustained synths, especially the way they’re introduced at the start of the song. Throughout the remix the ambient chords add complexity without cluttering the mix. The vocals also cut through the heavy bass nicely.

Areia has not yet posted a DJ-edit of the remix, but given his history of providing DJ edits over the past few remixes a DJ version of this sistar single anticipated to post soon. If not, we may be forced to make an edit from his instrumental. Really, though, it’s best if Areia creates this himself as we can’t quite master tracks as well him.

Download and listen to the Areia Remix #093 here.

Extend-it: Sistar 19’s Ma Boy (eHash ReWork) A# 90 BPM

Suddenly that shy, conservative, korean girl that you know, drops it like it’s hot. That’s what this track does to people: it brings out the inner hooch. Maybe this is because, for the kpop crowd, Sistar19’s Ma Boy is at the border between real hoochie music and kpop cotton-candy. Wishing to stay within the fluffly world of kpop, k-poppers can still act ghetto secksay.
